The bar is the United Kingdom through Doorzo. Assumed: a new plastic model kit, 800 g packed, from a Japanese shop, with ¥700 of postage inside Japan per seller.
Can it be sent?
All five services will ship a new plastic model kit to all 9 countries this site covers.
What it costs, country by country
The cheapest service that will take it, for each country, with everything included: the item, fees, postage inside Japan, EMS, and import tax where it can be calculated. Doorzo is cheapest (or joint cheapest) for 9 of the 9 countries it can go to.
| Ship to | Cheapest service | Import tax | Total | On top of the item |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| United States | Doorzo | duty about ¥625, not in total | ¥10,640 +duty ≈ US$67 | 113% |
| Canada | Doorzo | not estimated | ¥9,800 +duty ≈ C$88 | 96% |
| United Kingdom | Doorzo | ¥1,780 | ¥11,580 ≈ £55 | 132% |
| Australia | Doorzo | ¥890 | ¥10,690 ≈ A$97 | 114% |
| Germany | Doorzo | ¥1,691 | ¥11,491 ≈ €64 | 130% |
| France | Doorzo | ¥1,780 | ¥11,580 ≈ €65 | 132% |
| Singapore | Doorzo | ¥689 | ¥9,239 ≈ S$75 | 85% |
| Taiwan | Doorzo | ¥0 | ¥7,800 ≈ NT$1,579 | 56% |
| Hong Kong | Doorzo | ¥0 | ¥8,550 ≈ HK$425 | 71% |
United States: The normal US duty on model kits is zero, so goods made in Japan pay the 12.5% that has applied since 24 July 2026: about ¥625 on a ¥5,000 item. See how the US duty estimate works.
Local-currency figures are approximate, at the European Central Bank reference rates of 2026-10-01 (Taiwan dollars at the US Federal Reserve's H.10 rate of 2026-09-25).
The spread runs from ¥7,800 to Taiwan up to ¥11,580 to United Kingdom. Most of that gap is EMS postage and import tax, which are the same whichever proxy you use.
Each service, line by line
The same order to the United States through each service that will take it. Postage is identical; the lines that differ are the fees.

Where you buy it
Doorzo is cheapest at this weight whichever marketplace the item comes from. The last column is how far ahead it is of the next cheapest service; where the lead is a few hundred yen, what each includes may matter more than the price.
| Buying from | Cheapest | Total | Lead over next |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yahoo! Auctions | Doorzo | ¥10,640 | ¥300 |
| Mercari Japan | Doorzo | ¥10,640 | ¥300 |

A cheaper way to send it?
To the United States: Sent by airmail small packet instead of EMS, the same order comes to ¥8,500 through Buyee, ¥2,140 less. The trade-off is time: EMS is Japan Post's fastest service and surface parcels its slowest.
| Method | Postage | Cheapest service that lists it | Total | vs EMS |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EMS | ¥4,740 | Doorzo | ¥10,640 +duty | — |
| Airmail small packet | ¥2,300 | Buyee | ¥8,500 +duty | −¥2,140 |
| Airmail parcel | ¥4,200 | FROM JAPAN | ¥10,400 +duty | −¥240 |
| Surface (sea) parcel | ¥2,600 | Buyee | ¥8,800 +duty | −¥1,840 |
Japan Post's published rates. A service is only counted where its own site lists the method; the shipping methods guide shows which do. SAL (economy air) is not shown because Japan Post has suspended it.
What changes the answer
If it is a kit bundled with a bottle of model paint
The paint is a flammable liquid. To United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany and France: Doorzo, FROM JAPAN, Buyee, Neokyo and ZenMarket refuse it. To Australia: Doorzo, Neokyo, Buyee, FROM JAPAN and ZenMarket refuse it. To Singapore: Doorzo, Buyee, FROM JAPAN, ZenMarket and Neokyo refuse it. To Taiwan and Hong Kong: Doorzo, FROM JAPAN, Buyee, ZenMarket and Neokyo refuse it. No service can send it to any of the 9 countries.
If it is a kit bundled with a can of spray topcoat
A pressurised can.
One parcel or three?
Three kits at about 800 g each come to 2.4 kg together. Sent as three separate EMS parcels they pay for the 800 g band three times; sent as one they pay for the 2.5 kg band once. The postage saved is largest to United States, at ¥5,120.
| Ship to | three parcels | One parcel | Saved |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | ¥14,220 | ¥9,100 | ¥5,120 |
| Canada | ¥11,700 | ¥7,750 | ¥3,950 |
| United Kingdom | ¥11,700 | ¥7,750 | ¥3,950 |
| Australia | ¥11,700 | ¥7,750 | ¥3,950 |
| Germany | ¥11,700 | ¥7,750 | ¥3,950 |
| France | ¥11,700 | ¥7,750 | ¥3,950 |
| Singapore | ¥7,950 | ¥5,150 | ¥2,800 |
| Taiwan | ¥5,700 | ¥3,900 | ¥1,800 |
| Hong Kong | ¥7,950 | ¥5,150 | ¥2,800 |
EMS postage only. Fees and tax come on top in both cases; the consolidation guide works through the full totals.
What each service says
| Service | Flammable liquid | Aerosol / pressurised can |
|---|---|---|
| FROM JAPAN | Refused | Refused |
| Buyee | Refused | Refused |
| ZenMarket | Refused | Refused |
| Neokyo | Refused | Refused |
| Doorzo | Refused | Refused |
Each company's own rule, shipping to the United States. Destination rules can still block a route on top of this; the table further up accounts for both.
When it cannot be sent
Flammable liquid. No proxy and no Japanese shop can put this on a plane. It is an air transport rule, not a company policy. Buy the same paint from a hobby retailer in your own country; Mr. Hobby, Tamiya and Gaia Notes are all distributed internationally.
Aerosol / pressurised can. Pressurised cans cannot fly, so no proxy or Japanese store can send one. Buy the spray locally and import only the parts that are not aerosols.
If it is new and in stock
A proxy is the only way to buy second-hand from Mercari or Yahoo! Auctions. For new items there is another route: some Japanese shops sell overseas directly and post the parcel themselves, so the proxy's own fees, at least ¥200 on this order, are not charged at all. Solaris Japan sells new and pre-owned figures, video games and anime merchandise (Japan Post only (Saver / Regular / Express)).
We do not have the shop's own prices or shipping charges, so we do not claim it is cheaper; only that the proxy's fees disappear. This link is an affiliate link.
