Japan Proxy Cost Price my order

Buying manga and artbooks from Japan

Books are heavy for their price. A single paperback volume costs little in Japan and a lot to post, so how you buy manga matters more than which proxy you use: as a set listed by one seller, or volume by volume from different sellers.

A set of ten manga volumes at ¥6,000 costs ¥10,300 to ¥16,140 delivered, depending on the country.

The bar is the United Kingdom through Doorzo. Assumed: a set of ten manga volumes, 2 kg packed, from Mercari Japan, with ¥700 of postage inside Japan per seller.

Can it be sent?

All five services will ship a set of ten manga volumes to all 9 countries this site covers.

What it costs, country by country

The cheapest service that will take it, for each country, with everything included: the item, fees, postage inside Japan, EMS, and import tax where it can be calculated. Doorzo is cheapest (or joint cheapest) for 8 and Neokyo is cheapest (or joint cheapest) for 1 of the 9 countries it can go to.

United States: Publications, films, records, CDs and other informational materials are exempt from the US duty on Japanese goods, so for manga no duty is expected. See how the US duty estimate works.

Local-currency figures are approximate, at the European Central Bank reference rates of 2026-10-01 (Taiwan dollars at the US Federal Reserve's H.10 rate of 2026-09-25).

The spread runs from ¥10,300 to Taiwan up to ¥16,140 to United Kingdom. Most of that gap is EMS postage and import tax, which are the same whichever proxy you use.

Doorzo is cheapest at this weight whichever marketplace the item comes from. The last column is how far ahead it is of the next cheapest service; where the lead is a few hundred yen, what each includes may matter more than the price.

A cheaper way to send it?

To the United States: Sent by surface (sea) parcel instead of EMS, the same order comes to ¥10,500 through Buyee, ¥4,300 less. The trade-off is time: EMS is Japan Post's fastest service and surface parcels its slowest.

What changes the answer

If it is a single volume

A 200 g parcel still pays for the 500 g band. All five services will still ship it to all 9 countries. To the United Kingdom it comes to ¥5,400 through Doorzo, against ¥16,140 for a set of ten manga volumes; the VAT alone goes from ¥2,540 to ¥750.

If it is a large artbook

Heavier than it looks. All five services will still ship it to all 9 countries. To the United Kingdom it comes to ¥10,980 through Doorzo, against ¥16,140 for a set of ten manga volumes; the VAT alone goes from ¥2,540 to ¥1,680.

One parcel or ten?

Ten volumes bought one at a time at about 200 g each come to 2 kg together. Sent as ten separate EMS parcels they pay for the 500 g band ten times; sent as one they pay for the 2 kg band once. The postage saved is largest to United States, at ¥31,100.

EMS postage only. Fees and tax come on top in both cases; the consolidation guide works through the full totals.

If it is new and in stock

A proxy is the only way to buy second-hand from Mercari or Yahoo! Auctions. For new items there is another route: some Japanese shops sell overseas directly and post the parcel themselves, so the proxy's own fees, at least ¥200 on this order, are not charged at all. CDJapan sells CDs, Blu-ray and DVDs, books, games, figures and anime goods (EMS, airmail, DHL, FedEx and others, depending on the country).

We do not have the shop's own prices or shipping charges, so we do not claim it is cheaper; only that the proxy's fees disappear. This link is an affiliate link.
