United States: Publications, films, records, CDs and other informational materials are exempt from the US duty on Japanese goods, so for CDs and Blu-rays no duty is expected. See how the US duty estimate works.
Local-currency figures are approximate, at the European Central Bank reference rates of 2026-10-01 (Taiwan dollars at the US Federal Reserve's H.10 rate of 2026-09-25).
The spread runs from ¥12,330 to Taiwan up to ¥16,080 to United Kingdom. Most of that gap is EMS postage and import tax, which are the same whichever proxy you use.
Each service, line by line
The same order to the United States through each service that will take it. Postage is identical; the lines that differ are the fees.

Where you buy it
At this weight the cheapest service depends on the marketplace: Doorzo on Yahoo! Auctions, Mercari Japan and Rakuten Rakuma; and Buyee on Amazon.co.jp, Rakuten Ichiba, ZenMarket recommended stores and Other Japanese shops. The last column is how far ahead it is of the next cheapest service; where the lead is a few hundred yen, what each includes may matter more than the price.
| Buying from | Cheapest | Total | Lead over next |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yahoo! Auctions | Doorzo | ¥14,480 | ¥900 |
| Mercari Japan | Doorzo | ¥14,480 | ¥900 |

| Amazon.co.jp | Buyee | ¥14,380 | ¥100 |
| Rakuten Ichiba | Buyee | ¥14,380 | ¥100 |

A cheaper way to send it?
To the United States: Sent by airmail small packet instead of EMS, the same order comes to ¥12,080 through Buyee, ¥2,300 less. The trade-off is time: EMS is Japan Post's fastest service and surface parcels its slowest.
| Method | Postage | Cheapest service that lists it | Total | vs EMS |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EMS | ¥4,180 | Buyee | ¥14,380 +duty | — |
| Airmail small packet | ¥1,880 | Buyee | ¥12,080 +duty | −¥2,300 |
| Airmail parcel | ¥4,200 | Buyee | ¥14,400 +duty | +¥20 |
| Surface (sea) parcel | ¥2,600 | Buyee | ¥12,800 +duty | −¥1,580 |
Japan Post's published rates. A service is only counted where its own site lists the method; the shipping methods guide shows which do. SAL (economy air) is not shown because Japan Post has suspended it.
What changes the answer
If it is three second-hand CDs from different sellers
Three purchases rather than one order. All five services will still ship it to all 9 countries. To the United Kingdom it comes to ¥17,580 through Doorzo, against ¥16,080 for three CDs from one shop.
If it is a Blu-ray box set
Heavier and more valuable. All five services will still ship it to all 9 countries. To the United Kingdom it comes to ¥31,660 through Doorzo, against ¥16,080 for three CDs from one shop; the VAT alone goes from ¥2,480 to ¥5,110.
One parcel or three?
Three discs at about 200 g each come to 600 g together. Sent as three separate EMS parcels they pay for the 500 g band three times; sent as one they pay for the 600 g band once. The postage saved is largest to United States, at ¥7,520.
| Ship to | three parcels | One parcel | Saved |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | ¥11,700 | ¥4,180 | ¥7,520 |
| Canada | ¥9,450 | ¥3,400 | ¥6,050 |
| United Kingdom | ¥9,450 | ¥3,400 | ¥6,050 |
| Australia | ¥9,450 | ¥3,400 | ¥6,050 |
| Germany | ¥9,450 | ¥3,400 | ¥6,050 |
| France | ¥9,450 | ¥3,400 | ¥6,050 |
| Singapore | ¥5,700 | ¥2,150 | ¥3,550 |
| Taiwan | ¥4,350 | ¥1,600 | ¥2,750 |
| Hong Kong | ¥5,700 | ¥2,150 | ¥3,550 |
EMS postage only. Fees and tax come on top in both cases; the consolidation guide works through the full totals.
If it is new and in stock
A proxy is the only way to buy second-hand from Mercari or Yahoo! Auctions. For new items there is another route: some Japanese shops sell overseas directly and post the parcel themselves, so the proxy's own fees, at least ¥500 on this order, are not charged at all. CDJapan sells CDs, Blu-ray and DVDs, books, games, figures and anime goods (EMS, airmail, DHL, FedEx and others, depending on the country).
We do not have the shop's own prices or shipping charges, so we do not claim it is cheaper; only that the proxy's fees disappear. This link is an affiliate link.
